YesDescription of the tasks to be undertaken by the trainee(s):
The lected trainee will support ongoing activities related to the monitoring, collection and processing of macroalgae in coastal environments of Faial Island (Azores).
Main tasks include:
• Participation in field surveys for macroalgae sampling along the coastline
• Recording environmental and sampling data during fieldwork
• Collection, sorting and preliminary identification of macroalgae species
• Cleaning, processing and preparation of samples for analysis
• Biomass measurements and basic laboratory procedures
• Data entry, organisation and validation of field and laboratory data
• Support in the preparation of technical notes and reports
• Participation in team meetings and discussion of project results
The trainee will also gain insight into the ecological importance and potential applications of macroalgae within the blue economy.
Profile of the Trainee
Qualifications
Degree or ongoing studies in one of the following areas:
• Marine Biology
• Environmental Sciences
• Marine Sciences
• Aquaculture
• Biology
• Biotechnology (marine focus preferred)
Previous experience with fieldwork or marine organisms is considered an advantage but is not mandatory.
Personal and Social Skills
• Motivation to work in marine and coastal environments
• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
• Adaptability to fieldwork conditions
• Good organisational skills
• Interest in marine ecology and sustainable use of marine resources
• Reliability and responsibility
Language Skills
Basic knowledge of English is required.
Portuguese is not mandatory but will be considered an advantage.

• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
• Ability to work with digital data recording tools
• Basic data organisation and reporting skills
Other Skills
• Interest in marine ecology and macroalgae
• Ability to work outdoors in coastal environments
• Willingness to participate in fieldwork activities
• Diving experience or certification is considered an advantage.
Other Skills
The traineeship will take place at seaExpert, a marine consultancy and research-oriented company based on Faial Island (Azores).
The internship provides hands-on experience in coastal fieldwork, sample processing and basic data analysis related to macroalgae resources and marine ecosystems.
