Regions – Objectives, Principles, Commitments

Eurodyssey is entirely managed at regional level. The Regions are the ones selecting the organisations willing to host Eurodyssey trainees, the ones identifying the sectors in need of such sponsored traineeship programme, the ones coordinating the hosting and sending of young people, the ones deciding on the linguistic, social and cultural programme of the trainees, the ones managing the practical aspects, etc.

Two founding principles – Autonomy & Reciprocity

Autonomy: The Regions are free to define their own methods for managing the programme, provided that they comply with the Eurodyssey Statutes and Rules of Procedures. They have flexibility in organising how the trainees are hosted (e.g. type of accommodation, amount of the remuneration, organisation of the language course), as long as it provides them with the necessary resources to live in the region, depending on the living costs in the given region (fair remuneration).

Reciprocity: The Regions finance the costs linked with the hosting of trainees in their region (their accommodation, remuneration and language course). As per the reciprocity principle, and to ensure a fair balance, the Regions commit to host as many trainees as they send.

Commitments

  • The Regions comply with the Eurodyssey Statutes and Rules of Procedure.
  • The Regions must possess sufficient human and financial resources to carry out the exchange programme, must ensure the proper implementation of Eurodyssey in their region, and liaise regularly with the other regions (this aspect is also coordinated by the AER Secretariat).
  • The Regions finance the costs linked with the hosting of trainees in their region (their accommodation, remuneration and language course), together with the host organisations (companies, associations, public administration…).
  • The Regions coordinate the sending of young trainees from their region to other European Regions, who will finance their hosting.
  • The Regions keep the AER Secretariat informed about the programme’s implementation in their region (hosting, sending, promotion…).
  • The Regions commit to promoting Eurodyssey in their territory, to make sure that the programme is adequately known by companies and young people.

Why do Regions join Eurodyssey?

  • To take part in an international framework supporting the Regions’ youth mobility, employment and training strategy;
  • To provide their youth with an opportunity to undertake a paid traineeship abroad, and come back upskilled;
  • To host young people from other regions, to build on their skills and profiles, and to make them contribute to the local / regional economy and cultural life;
  • To make young people ambassadors of their Region, whether they are sent abroad for their traineeship, or after they are hosted for a traineeship in the region;
  • To develop their international profile and European partnerships, through their inclusion in the Eurodyssey and AER network;
  • To benefit from capacity-building, exchange of best practices, sharing of experience and international cooperation.
