Does the region accept spontaneous candidates

Documents which the candidates must carry with themselves:
1. Valid passport (valid throughout the whole period of stay)
2. European health insurance card
3. A1 Certificate (applies to the rights and obligations from the social security system between the Member States of the European Union)
Upon arrival, the candidate signs the contract with the County where all the rights and obligations of each contracting party are determined. Later, a tripartite contract between the candidate, the employer and the County will be signed. In some cases, the employer might cover some costs (local transport, lunch break, etc.)
Good to know: The Republic of Croatia is an EU member state, the youngest one! (since 2013) and a member of the Eurozone and the Schengen area (since 2023).

Is linguistic training mandatory?

The Croatian language course takes place on the premises of Varazdin County palace in the centre of Varazdin. The language is taught by an experienced Croatian language teacher.
The course takes palace after work of the candidates, in the afternoon hours, 2-3 times per week, throughout the whole stay of candidates.
The costs of the language course are covered by Varazdin County

Are any other financial supports offered?

Candidates get an allowance of 400 euro per month paid by Varazdin County on the account of the candidate, until the 10th in month at the latest for the current month. The candidate must open an account in a bank in Varazdin. He/she gets the account card with the help of which he/she can get the money in the bank. Before that, he/she needs to get the Personal Identification Number at the Tax Office. The candidate needs a passport for this.
Since this administrative procedure takes some time, candidates are advised to have a certain amount of money for the first few days.
Good to know: Croatia has been in the Eurozone since 1st January 2023, so the official currency today is Euro.

Candidates stay at Students’dormitory, in a room with a shower, refrigerator, Internet access.The Student residence Varaždin is one of the most modern student accommodation complexes in Croatia. It consists of two buildings (residence halls) and a student restaurant. It is located just a ten-minute walk away the city centre, but also fairly close to the river Drava, which is a great venue for recreation and relaxing.There are small kitchens with TV sets in each floor, cold and hot drink machines, computer rooms, separate rooms for studying, sports hall, laundry, CCTV at the entrance and other public areas.
The costs of accommodation are covered by Varazdin County.
