Union of Cyprus Municipalities
In CYPRUS, Eurodyssee is jointly managed by the Department of Labour (EURES Network) of the Ministry of Labour, Welfare and Social Insurance and the Union of Cyprus Municipalities (UMC).
The Union of Cyprus Municipalities is the main association of Local Authorities in Cyprus. Its core functions are to contribute to the development of local government autonomy, as well as to act as spokesman of local government interests vis-a-vis the central government and other national institutions. It also takes an active stand in the relations between Cyprus and the European Union. Its members are the 39 Municipalities of Cyprus, 9 of which are occupied by the Turkish army since 1974.
The Union of Cyprus Municipalities is a member of the Council of European Municipalities and Regions (CEMR), of the Assembly of European Boarder Regions (AEBR) and of the Assembly of European Regions (AER). It is also represented in the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe, as well as in the Committee of the Regions of the European Union. At the same time is actively involved in European Programs and takes part in different local and regional networks.
Τhe Department of Labour is responsible for the promotion and Implementation of Government policy in the fields of employment. The Government’s main policy aim in this respect is to maintain conditions of full and productive employment and promote conditions for the rational utilization of the whole labour force, including the youth, persons with disabilities.
More specifically the Department’s main aims are:
* To promote full, productive and quality employment by encouraging more participation in employment, and by providing placement services and vocational guidance,
* To promote rational utilization of human resources, including administrative and coordinating work in the fields of vocational training and education,
* To guarantee conditions of proper employment of foreign workers, within the smooth operation of the labour market,
* To promote fair mobility in Europe through the EURES Network and the operation of a number of EU projects such as EURODYSSEY, ERASMUS+ and Your EURES Job.
